Hoses and Fittings

How do I select the appropriate hose length?

The best way to determine the length of hose you need is to measure the distance from your tap to the furthest area you wish to water. Be sure to add a couple of extra metres for flexibility.

How can I prolong the life of my Nylex Garden Hose?

  • Store your Nylex hose out of direct sunlight when not in use to prevent sun damage and unnecessary wear and tear.
  • Hoses should be stored indoors during freezing conditions.
  • Coiling the hose will also add to its longevity.

Are Nylex Garden Hoses recyclable?

Generally, garden hoses are not accepted through domestic recycling bin programs, however check your local council's website for further recycling information. If your hose has any small flaws, we recommend cutting out the damaged area and reconnecting the hose for continued continue use.

What essential accessories should I have for my Nylex Garden Hose?

Most hoses benefit from a hose reel or hose hanger for storage purposes, such as keeping it off the hot or freezing ground. A selection of nozzles will offer a variety of spray patterns for different watering purposes, and hose connectors provide quick access and removal from taps.

What does ‘kinking’ mean and how do the kink-ratings work?

Kinking is a bend in the hose which often reduces & stops the water flow, whereas a twist usually rolls onto itself.

It’s important to note that all hoses will kink to some degree. We provide our hoses (along with most brands) a kink resistance rating from one to 10. The rating is based on multiple factors which all affect the ability of a hose to kink such as wall thickness, weave type, and material. The thicker the hose, the less likely to kink.

A braided (weave-type) hose is not as kink resistance as a knitted hose however a knitted hose is more likely to twist.

Hose kink-rating will also be reflected in the retail price.

What are the different types of Nylex Garden Hoses available?

Garden Hose: Ideal for everyday domestic watering.

Soaker Hose: Sprinkling and soaking watering methods indicated by stripe. Ideally suited to watering lawns, garden beds, ferneries, and vegetable patches.

Weeper Hose: Waters directly to the root zone of plants minimising water loss through evaporation or wind drift. Ideally suited to watering lawns, garden beds, ferneries, vegetable patches, or plant rows.

Can my two 10 metre soakers be joined?

Yes, unscrew the two ends and easily screw/fix into one another.

Why is there a water stop valve on the end of my hose?

The water stop valve is a water-saving mechanism. This is used to prevent water wastage when swapping between accessories and means you won’t need to return to the tap to shut the water off. If you prefer, you can simply swap the hose connector that joins the hose to the tap with the one at the other end of the hose.

Why is my sprayer hose not spraying evenly?

Flush the hose by running water through it at the full tap turn, while the end cap is removed.

Hose Reels and Storage

Why is water not spraying out from the retractable hose reel?

The hose reel is fitted with a water-saving stop connector; it will only allow flow through the hose when there is an accessory attached such as a spray gun, nozzle, or sprinkler. If you want to use the hose without any accessory, you can swap the two hose connectors on the unit around (there is one supplied on the tap-to-reel hose).

What tips are available for a hose reel that is not retracting or locking in place?

  • If the hose doesn't retract properly, ensure all the water inside the hose has been released.
  • Lift the hose end above the waist height if retraction loses power in the last few metres
  • If the safety lock lever cannot be engaged, pull the hose out until you hear a click.
  • The hose can now be held in place and the safety lock lever can be engaged.
  • If this doesn't click, pull the hose all the way out and give it a tug which will recalibrate the retracting mechanism.

Sprayers

What makes a heavy-duty sprayer different from a standard sprayer?

Nylex heavy-duty sprayers have a greater resistance to deterioration from a variety of fluids and chemicals than the 'standard' sprayer range. Viton seals which have a resistance to oils, fuels, lubricants and most mineral acids will provide the highest level of chemical compatibility and spraying performance. When using the heavy-duty sprayers, it is important to follow the care instructions provided.

How to choose the right sprayer for my job?

Nylex offer a range of domestic garden sprayers suitable for most applications, ranging from indoor cleaning and watering to plant protection in the garden, greenhouse or patio.

The Nylex sprayer range includes trigger sprayers, manual sprayers, shoulder sprayers and backpack sprayers.

Why won't my backpack sprayer work when I release the pump handle?

Unlike manual and shoulder sprayers, the backpack sprayers must be pumped continuously whilst spraying.

What material are Nylex sprayers made from?

All Nylex sprayers are made from Polyethylene.

Rain Gauges

Why is my digital rain gauge recording vastly higher temperatures outdoors than what the temperature is?

Commonly, higher temperatures are recorded on the gauge if the outdoor sensor is in direct sunlight, or the indoor sensor is placed high where heat rises, near a sunny window, or an area that emits heat such as a heater, TV or computer. Place outdoor gauges in a shady spot and ensure indoor sensors are placed in a temperature-neutral position.

Misting System

Can I put my misting system under an awning or patio?

The Nylex Misting System is intended to be installed in an outdoor area, and not under any type of structure or cover. This will affect the air flow of the mist.

The auto drain valve on my misting system is constantly open and spraying water everywhere?

Check your water pressure. The Nylex Misting System works best when you have a high-pressure water supply, this will ensure that the water droplets are fine, allowing for faster evaporation which will cool an area more efficiently. Standard household water supply is usually adequate pressure at 400kpa.

How much water does my misting system use?

The Nylex Misting System uses approximately two litres per hour, per nozzle.

Is the misting system UV stabilised?

The Nylex Misting System is intended for outdoor use and is UV stabilised.

Sprinklers

Why isn’t my circular sprinkler spinning?

The water pressure for the circular sprinkler must be above 200kPa for the arms to spin.

Ensure that the arms of the sprinkler are placed in the correct position.
